Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) has announced plans to open a self-service petrol shed in the Greater Male’ area by the end of 2021.
FSM’s Managing Director Mohamed Gasam told Raajje TV on Wednesday that the company is now working on modernising its petrol sheds in the Greater Male’ area. He also stated that the design of some of the sheds that will be modified as part of this project is nearing completion.
Gasam went on to say that the capacity of the temporary petrol shed in Male’ Industrial Area will be enhanced, and that the designs and drawings for it have been finished. When upgraded, the shed will be able to serve 14 motorbikes and eight four-wheeled vehicles at the same time, according to Gasam.
Furthermore, Gasam indicated that the FSM’s primary priority is to establish a self-service fuel shed in Male’, where customers may fill their gas tanks and even make payments without the intervention of a staff member.
Gasam noted that the company had opted to gather public opinion on the topic and examine the benefits and downsides to the company prior to the implementation of a self-service petrol shed, but that this is being delayed due to the problems caused by the epidemic.
He also stated that the board of directors has directed the company to do a trial run at the Hulhumale’ petrol shed in order to identify the general public’s thoughts on the topic, their support and awareness of self-service.
