Fuwad Thowfeek was chosen head of the Elections Commission at a meeting on Wednesday.
According to the Elections Commission, Fuwad received unanimous approval from all Elections Commission members.
The position of chairman of the Elections Commission had been vacant since former chairman Ahmed Shareef resigned on June 15.
The Elections Commission is made up of five members: Chairman Fuwad Thowfeek, Vice-Chairman Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem, Commissioner Mohamed Asif, Commissioner Ali Nashaath, and Commissioner Dr. Mohamed Zahir.
Fuwad was a member of the Elections Commission until his appointment on Wednesday, and he served as chairman during the commission’s first term.
