During an event held by Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) as part of their campaign for the upcoming local council elections, Minister Aslam has said funds worth USD 100 Million, for housing projects across the country, will be included in the state budget for next year.
Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam stated the housing projects will include the construction of rowhouses and flats. In addition to this, he said all the necessary preparations are already in motion, along with tender documents and drawings. All the projects are to be assigned to local contractors and will be directly financed by the government.
In the same event, Housing Minister said talks are ongoing to start a housing loan scheme, in the second quarter of this year, worth USD 11 Million. He said the loans will be distributed to construct homes and to add buildings in currently owned lots.
During last month’s Presidential Address, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih emphasized the efforts undertaken by the government to solve housing issues which includes ongoing projects to construct 400 housings units in four islands and another 5,000 units to be launched in the Greater Male’ Area before the end of this year.
