The Government of Maldives has denied allegations made by Speaker Mohamed Nasheed regarding an apparent sex scandal of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Former President and Speaker Nasheed on Friday night claimed that he had received four photos of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih having an extramarital affair with the daughter of a relative. Nasheed further threatened to leak the photos to the Maldives Police Service. He made these allegations in a MDP’s WhatsApp group.
However, the President’s Spokesperson Mabrook Azeez was quick to deny the allegation made against President Solih. Mabrook said the President has asserted that the allegations made against himself are completely false and fabricated.
Speaker Nasheed had earlier accused President Solih of trying to appease hardline extremists by arresting Nasheed’s brother Nazim Abdul Sattar on the grounds of alleged same-sex relations with a Bangladeshi expatriate.
Maldives Police Service arrested three high-profile individuals on Thursday regarding the infamous sex scandal portraying same-sex sexual relations, including prominent lawyer Ahmed Nazim, former MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel) and a police officer in the Drug Enforcement Department, Abdul Rahman Rafeeu.
