The President’s Office has stated the government does not dismiss employees and uses its resources to influence elections as claims of unjust influence were accused by opposition and ruling party members alike.
The President’s Office stated it has investigated accusations that a political appointee was dismissed over an internal election of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The action was taken against the political appointee after conducting an investigation in accordance with the rules and regulations, after a petition accusing the employee of misuse of his position was submitted.
Moreover, the government has never used its resources to influence an election and will condemn such actions in the strongest terms. It also stated each individual has the right to support and vote for whomever they wish and urged citizens to alert the relevant institutions if those rights are violated.
