President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has instructed that government employees return to work on Sunday.
Following the declaration of a lockdown in Male’ City due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases, government employees were instructed to work from home. However, in a directive released on Thursday, the president instructed that government personnel continue to work from their respective offices beginning next week.
According to the directive, all personnel should follow the COVID-19 guidelines when they return to their respective agency’ offices.
The directive instructs government offices to guarantee that staff complete their job during regular business hours and avoid remaining in the office after hours unless on shift duty. If offices must remain open after regular business hours, they should do so by 4 p.m. at the latest.
Furthermore, in order to remove the necessity for face-to-face interactions, government institutions should determine which of their services can be given online and then adopt and standardize such procedures.
The directive also requires offices to apply good hygiene procedures and ensure social distancing.
