Government has hinted at the possibility of a cabinet shuffle to provide better service to the public.
A letter signed by the Chief of Staff of the President’s Office, Ali Zahir states that crucial changes to the operation of some ministries will be made to fulfill government pledges.
President Solih has previously warned that if he believes that a minister is incompetent, he will depose that minister himself, just as he vowed to when he was elected.
So far, 5 ministers in his cabinet have been dismissed. The most recent dismissal was the Minister for Communication, Science and Technology, Mohamed Maleeh Jamal. Moreover, the Minister for the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Zaha Waheed also faced dismissal through a no confidence motion at the parliament which ultimately failed.
Several cabinet ministers face accusations of incompetence from the general public amidst ongoing high profile corruption scandals.
