President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that his government plans to give all students aged 12 to 17 the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination by the end of this month.
In a special assembly held on Tuesday at Rehendhi School in Hulhumale to mark the start of the new academic year, President Solih detailed plans for a vaccination program aimed at pupils aged 12 to 17. He added that by the end of August, all schoolchildren would have had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination.
The president requested full cooperation from parents and guardians in vaccinating all schoolchildren by the end of this month.
During the special assembly, President Solih also remarked that the Maldives has now effectively attained a new normal, as seen by the resumption of regular work hours at offices and companies. He did emphasize, however, that despite attaining this new normal, we must stay watchful about emerging COVID-19 variants.
He also advised parents, teachers, and students to strictly adhere to all COVID-19 control measures and to collaborate in order to preserve the momentum gained in combating the virus in the country.
President Solih highlighted teachers’ incalculable contribution to the nation, stating that the country appreciates the hard work of education sector professionals. He stated that the government is working on changing the education sector’s remuneration structure and offering wage increases beginning with the next fiscal year’s budget.
