President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has added another week to the previously announced government office closure in the Greater Male’ region, from May 15th to May 22nd.
All government offices in the Greater Malé area (Malé, Hulhumalé, Villingili, Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu) will remain closed as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19, according to the President’s Office.
Despite the temporary closing of offices and the order for workers to operate from home when needed, the President’s Office assured that all basic services will continue uninterrupted by enabling the requisite number of employees to attend their respective offices.
Further, wherever practicable, government departments have been told to offer public services online.
In his directive, President Solih instructed government workers to follow the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) guidelines in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.
This comes after the HPA announced tighter restrictions in the region, including an extension of the curfew in Malé City from 16:00 to 04:00 a.m. beginning yesterday.
