President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that government offices will reopen on Sunday after being temporarily closed as a precautionary measure due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The directive instructs government offices to follow the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) health and safety requirements in order to prevent further spread of COVID-19. President Solih urged government offices on islands with community spread of COVID-19 to pay special attention to the HPA’s guidelines.
According to the directive, government offices must guarantee that personnel complete their work within regular hours and avoid staying in the workplace after 2 p.m. unless on shift duty and if offices must remain open after usual working hours, they are advised to do so by 4 p.m. at the latest.
President Solih further instructed government offices to follow proper hygiene standards and maintain social distance in accordance with the procedures indicated in the Civil Service Commission Circular, which was created in collaboration with the HPA.
Government offices have also been directed to take any and all cost-cutting measures possible in order to alleviate the burden on the national budget caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, the directive instructed government institutions to remind their employees that preventive steps are being implemented to assist the nation in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.
