The planning ministry has begun the bidding process for airport development projects on six different islands.
According to a notice issued by the planning ministry, interested parties that provide funding for the six domestic airport projects would get a cross subsidy in the form of an island, land, or lagoon for resort development.
Airport construction has been announced for the following islands:
- Makunudhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll
- Bilehfahi, Shaviyani Atoll
- Thulhaadhoo, Baa Atoll
- Vilufushi, Thaa Atoll
- Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll
- Southern Raa Atoll (Island not announced)
According to the planning ministry statement, since each airport is a separate project, interested parties should specify which project they would finance or develop.
The planning ministry also said that the minimum sum for funding bids must be USD 5 million, however proposals can be filed to finance or develop the entire project.
Bids can also be addressed to the Ministry of Economic Development or emailed to proposals@trade.gov.mv, according to the planning ministry.
