The Attorney General’s Office (AG Office) has stated that eight bills have been introduced for the second parliamentary session.
The AG Office said that a total of 19 bills are planned to be submitted to the parliament during the second session of 2021, with 8 bills already submitted.
The bills presented to parliament include an amendment to the Judges Act and two amendments to the Maldives’ Penal Code. Bills submitted during the current session include bills on birth and death registry, animal health, food, and defamation compensation.
Additional bills to be introduced during the current session of parliament, according to the AG Office, include a bill on evidence and witnesses, a bill on electronic communications, and a bill on the commercial use of living species threatened with extinction.
The administration also intends to change several acts that violate the new Decentralisation Act and its goals.
