The government has stated that it intends to select a delegate for each atoll to monitor the situation with COVID-19.
The decision was announced in a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, which stated that due to the influx of daily new cases of COVID-19 in atolls, a government delegate will be closely monitoring the situation in the designated atoll and taking necessary steps and precautions to curb the spread of COVID-19.
According to the press release, the delegate appointed by the government will be a deputy minister or a state minister who will be responsible for working with Councils and the Task Force to control the spread of COVID-19 in the atoll and providing necessary updates to the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) and other relevant authorities.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is now monitoring 70 islands due to an increase in daily COVID-19 cases. In total, 61,844 COVID-19 cases have been registered in the country, with 36,862 recoveries. The overall number of deaths has risen to 155, with the HPA reporting 5 more deaths on Friday
