The government has announced a limited preview of the forthcoming national digital identification (ID) card, which is set to launch in March.
The soft launch is designed to allow 500 individuals to experience the service, identify any glitches and suggest improvements. Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology Mohamed Shareef explained that this preview will help the ministry to prepare for an influx of users and understand how the service might perform under heavier loads.
Unlike the existing national ID card, the digital ID card will include many security features. It will be available through the newly launched eFaas application, which enables individuals to access all government-issued cards digitally. The digital ID card will be provided in both Dhivehi and English, with information transferred between institutions in the required language. The eFass application includes robust security features, with a strong focus on protecting personal information and preventing fraudulent activity. Before the card can be used, the individual must undergo verification.
