Minister of State for Health Dr. Shah Abdullah Mahir revealed that the government is attempting to obtain Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for children above 12 years.
Pfizer vaccines have been administered in Maldives based on appointments for children aged 16 or 17 with a long-term illness, over-60s with a chronic health concern, and immunocompromised individuals aged 18 to 60.
Dr. Shah stated that the government is striving to procure Pfizer vaccine doses for children over the age of 12, but that the precise delivery date is still unknown due to the strong demand for vaccines around the world.
Dr. Shah also mentioned that the 5,850 doses of Pfizer vaccine acquired through the WHO’s COVAX facility are nearly depleted.
Pfizer vaccine is currently being administered to children above the age of 12 in several countries.
