The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that 50% of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Maldives began its COVID-19 immunisation campaign in February, and since then, over 200,000 people have received two doses, with more than 300,000 receiving their first dose.
According to HPA’s Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeg, around half of the people over the age of 18 have completed their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The HPA has previously stated that it intends to vaccinate around 80% of the eligible population.
The COVID-19 vaccination program was launched with a contribution of 200,000 doses from the Indian government. The program was then discontinued after the stock ran out.
The immunisation program, however, resumed this month in the country with the donation of a new shipment of Covishield vaccine.
