During a campaign event held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail said expansion project of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport will include a seaplane terminal.
Minister Fayyaz stated development of an air taxi terminal in Hanimaadhoo will provide faster and easier routes than the current connection with Male’ City. In addition, he said completion of this project will increase number of tourist arrivals in the northern atolls in return increasing job opportunities and benefit local businesses.
Furthermore, this project includes a new passenger and cargo terminal along with fuel farm and a fire station. The runway will be expanded to 2,200m which will be able to land Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s.
The project is funded by Export Import Bank of India and the valuation is around USD 800 million.
