The Government of Maldives has awarded Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project to India’s JMC Projects Ltd. for USD136,625,386.44
A press release by the Ministry of Economy and Trade on Wednesday announced that the project’s tender process has been completed and the project has been awarded to the winning bidder on August 10, 2022. The project work will start later this year and the airport will be operational by 2024 according to the press release.
The mega project which is funded through a USD 800 million Line of Credit from EXIM Bank of India signed in 2019 will include a terminal with the capacity to cater for 1.3 million passengers per year and will have a 2.46 kilometer new runway.
The scope of the project includes to redevelop Hanimaadhoo lnternational Airport which includes major infrastructure and operational upgradation in the airside, landside and building infrastructure to meet the future growth of traffic to the Maldives and maintain lnternational Civil Aviation Organization (“lCAO”) standards.
Hanimaadhoo International Airport is being developed as a main hub of the northern Maldives. Government had previously stated that with the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport, additional resorts, city hotels and guest houses would also benefit from the new airport.
