Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has launched a container-based data center, marking the first such center to be established in the Maldives. HDC’s Smartcom brand aims to make Hulhumale’ a smart city, and the new data center in Hulhumale’ Phase II ensures 99.9% uninterrupted service availability per year.
According to HDC’s Managing Director, Ahmed Atif, the center’s inauguration expands the services offered by the Open Access Network already in place in Hulhumale’. HDC intends to continue expanding the center’s services in the future.
HDC also stated that the data center will minimize service interruption time to less than 1.6 hours per year. The center features a redundant cooling system, a battery backup system that lasts at least 24 hours, and an automated monitoring system with an alert mechanism. Furthermore, HDC has taken care to establish the center in an environmentally friendly manner, with a fire suppression system in place.
