Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun installing recycle bins in Hulhumale’.
HDC stated the project aims to reduce plastic waste and establish a clean environment in Hulhumale’. The company will be placing a total of 345 dustbins under the project, which is split into three phases. A total of 41 dustbins will be placed in the first phase, 108 dustbins will be placed in the second phase, and 196 dustbins will be placed in the third phase. The dustbins are designed with separate compartments for recyclable and non-recyclable waste.
Households in the Greater Male’ Region will be required to separate waste before collection starting from June 1. Currently, waste is separated by workers after Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) transports the waste to Thilafushi.
