The Ministry of Health is looking into the death of a three-month-old boy at Dr Abdul Samad Hospital in Thinadhoo, Gaaf Dhaal Atoll, for alleged medical negligence.
It is examining the circumstances leading up to the child’s death and has subsequently suspended one doctor in connection with the death.
According to a statement released by the hospital last Monday, an infant transported to the Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility died at around 05:00 a.m. on October 18.
The child tested positive for COVID-19 16 days before his death, completing the 14-day quarantine period, therefore the hospital ruled it out as a COVID-19 fatality.
The three-month-old died while being treated at the facility, and his family has accused the hospital of being neglectful and delaying care.
