The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has developed a specialized service for COVID-19-related medical emergencies with a dedicated hotline number 100.
Mabrook Azeez, Spokesperson for the President’s Office, stated at the HEOC press conference that the Health Ministry and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) will collaborate to offer Emergency Medical Services to people in need. This entails dialing “100” to request ambulance services in an emergency.
Mabrook said that the aim of the service is to assist a quick response to COVID-19-related medical situations and to reduce fatalities due to delayed reaction. He further stated that the service is now only available in the Greater Male’ Region and asked the public not to call the hotline for non-emergencies.
The new hotline is dedicated to requesting an ambulance for a COVID-19 patient who is having major breathing difficulties, is experiencing chronic discomfort or pressure in the chest, or is unconscious and unresponsive. Non-emergency calls can be made to the general hotline 1676.
