The President has directed that the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) be scaled up in order to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the new wave that the Maldives is currently facing.
The Health Emergency Coordination Committee (HECC), which will be co-chaired by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Health Minister Ahmed Naseem, and other relevant ministers, will meet regularly at Dharubaaruge. President Solih will participate virtually, as will representatives from HEOC.
The committee met today to explore ways to resolve and reinforce steps put in place to control the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
The Maldives is seeing a recent rise in positive cases, with 200 people hospitalized for COVID-19 care across the country. While the ICU at Dharumavantha Hospital (DH11) in Malé is at its peak, with six patients on ventilators.
According to HPA statistics, 440 of the 601 reported cases yesterday were from the Malé region, while 141 cases were reported from inhabited islands.
