After the previous contractor failed to complete the project to establish a neighborhood fish factory in Hithadhoo district, Addu City Council has granted the project to a new company.
According to the City Council, the previous agreement was cancelled for violation of contract, and a new contractor was granted the job on Sunday.
Seabots Pvt. Ltd., the new contractor, has six months to finish the India-funded project.
Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar noted that if the facility is constructed in accordance with the agreement, it will be of immense benefit to the people of Addu, creating jobs and new prospects such as increased fish exports.
Mayor Nizar also stated that it will increase the selling and purchasing of fish in Addu.
The government also intends to construct similar factories in the Hulhudhoo and Maradhoo districts. The council has stated that it is looking for contractors to work on the projects.
