Regional Airports Company Limited has announced that Hoarafushi Airport has become the Maldives’ first certified regional airport.
Speaking during a gathering to commemorate Hoarafushi Airport’s one-year anniversary, Managing Director Mohamed Rizvi stated that the Regional Airports Company is striving to certify other domestic airports as well, adding that work is being done to assess if airports in the country meet international regional airport standards and to certify the seven airports under the authority of Regional Airports Company.
He stated that Hoarafushi Airport was the first to be approved, and that work is currently being done to analyze and certify Fuvahmulah Airport.
According to Regional Airports Company, Hoarafushi Airport is now operational during the day, and the lights required for night-time operations will be installed by the end of the year.
Furthermore, the government is currently working on nine projects in Hoarafushi, including the establishment of an ice plant, a bottling plant, the building of a football field, and the upgrade of the island hospital.
