Hong Kong has imposed travel restrictions on the Maldives following the finding of the first case of the coronavirus variant Omicron.
A sample retrieved from a traveller who arrived from South Africa on November 21 confirmed the Maldives’ first case of Omicron on Sunday.
With the inclusion of the Maldives to the list of COVID-19 high-risk countries, non-Hong Kong nationals who have spent the preceding 21 days in the Maldives would be denied entry to Hong Kong.
However, fully vaccinated Hong Kong residents would be permitted to enter the city but will be required to stay in a specified hotel for 21 days.
Travel restrictions imposed on travellers arriving in Hong Kong from Maldives will go into force on December 9 at 00:00 a.m.
