The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the decision to ban all travels between atolls except for medical or essential purposes.
Tha ban comes after a recent surge of COVID-19 cases in atolls, outpacing the recorded number of cases within the Greater Male’ area on a daily basis.
However, residents of the Greater Male’ area (Male’, Hulhumale’, Villimale’, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi) can travel between the islands.
Moreover, travelers are required to seek a permit from the local council before traveling to the island for medical or essential purposes.
The ban will come into effect starting 4th May for 7 days.
Maldives has recorded more than 30,000 COVID-19 cases so far with 5,221 currently active cases.
