The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended curfew hours in the Greater Male’ area (Male’, Hulhumale’, and Villimale’) from 21:00 to 04:00, amid an alarming surge of new COVID-19 cases.
HPA last imposed a curfew in the capital on February 2, between 23:00 to 04:30 hours. The curfew was lifted after two months on April 1. The new curfew along with several tighter restrictions have been imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
The current curfew comes a day after more new restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19 came into effect; a 00:00 to 04:00 ban on vehicular traffic, public parks closed, public offices closed and suspension of physical classes in schools.
Maldives Police Service will continue to issue permits for delivery services and other essential needs, during the curfew hours.
