Import and customs revenue climbed but exports fell in September, continuing a similar pattern to the previous month.
According to Maldives Customs statistics, exports decreased by 13% this September compared to the same month in 2020. Maldives exported products worth MVR 328 million in September 2021, compared to MVR 378 million in September 2020.
Seafood products are the most often exported goods from the Maldives, with the largest number of goods sent to Thailand in September. This is followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy.
In September, commodities worth MVR 3.6 billion were imported into the Maldives. This is a 90 percent increase over the same period last year, when just MVR 1.9 billion in products were imported.
Oman imported the most commodities into the Maldives in September, with MVR 603 million worth of goods. This is followed by China, with MVR 441 million in products, India, with MVR 434 million in goods, the UAE, with MVR 418 million, and Singapore, with MVR 316 million.
Furthermore, customs revenue from taxes and fees placed on imported and exported goods increased by 137 percent in September compared to the same period in 2020.
