Import revenue for the month of April has seen a 67 percent increase from the same period last year.
Statistics published by the Maldives Customs reveals that goods worth MVR 3 billion were imported to the Maldives in April of 2021, compared to MVR 1.8 billion from April last year.
Moreover, MVR 779 million of the items were food and staple items, while MVR 517 million were machinery and equipment. MVR 402 million worth of fuel were also imported into the Maldives in April 2021.
As for exports, MVR 174 million worth of goods were exported by the Maldives in April 2021 compared to MVR 237 million in April last year. This is a fall of 27 percent.
The biggest export items from the Maldives are frozen fish and Thailand being the leading market. Closely followed by India and the UK.
Income revenue rose by 101 percent last April. This includes MVR 261 million as duty and MVR 4 million as royalties, according to the statistics.
