The Indian government has nominated a new High Commissioner to the Maldives to replace incumbent Sunjay Sudhir.
Munu Mahawar, the current Indian ambassador to Oman, has been selected as the next High Commissioner to the Maldives, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.
He is anticipated to start his assignment as India’s High Commissioner to the Maldives soon, according to the MEA.
Mahawar entered the Indian Foreign Service in 1996 and has worked at Indian diplomatic missions in Russia from 1998 to 2001, as well as Switzerland from 2008 to 2011.
He has also worked as a director in the Indian Prime Minister’s Office and in the UN political division of India’s MEA.
Sunjay Sudhir, the outgoing Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, was appointed to the post in 2019. During his two years on the job, he has played a key role in reestablishing strong bilateral relations between India and the Maldives, as well as the large India-funded projects undertaken by the Solih administration.
