The Maldives Correctional Service has received four vehicles acquired with grant support from the Indian government.
According to the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India provided MVR 8 million in grant assistance to the Correctional Service. The funds were utilized to acquire four vehicles, three vans and a car, to aid the Correctional Service’s mobility and capacity to carry out its duties, according to the Ministry.
Furthermore, the foreign ministry stated that work is being done to acquire a passenger launch as part of the financial support to the Correctional Service.
At the ceremony, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid highlighted the critical role of the Maldives Correctional Service in the reform and reintegration of prisoners back into society as responsible citizens. Minister Shahid also emphasised the significance of strengthening the institution’s effectiveness in providing services to the Maldivians.
According to the Indian High Commission, the grant assistance of MVR 106 million announced during the visit of India’s Minister of External Affairs in March 2019 offered financial support for this project. The funding was given to carry out socioeconomic development projects around the country.
