In a press statement released today, High Commission of India in the Maldives said Indian navy ship, INS Darshak, has conducted hydrographic survey from Haa Dhaalu Atoll to Shaviyani Atoll with the help of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
According to the statement, the ship surveyed an area of around 423km2 in Haa Dhaalu Atoll between Hirinaidhoo and Kumundhoo to publish large-scale chart of Kulhudhuffushi Port. This involved depth measurement, detailed mapping of ten island, and observing the ocean currents. Moreover, they stated this survey will help to develop Kulhudhuffushi as an international port by allowing easy navigation within the area.
Furthermore, Indian High Commission stated the ship surveyed a total area of around 4068km2 of the northern atolls which would help with approaching different islands in this area with the publication of a small-scale chart.
The high commission said this joint survey was done to train MNDF personnel to do independent survey in the future and that they will assist MNDF in setting up such facilities with state-of-the-art equipment.
