Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that free PCR tests will be offered from flu clinics to individuals travelling to islands.
During a press conference, HPA’s Fathimath Ana highlighted that individuals travelling to islands with a COVID-19 infection rate of 5% or above will be required to provide a negative PCR test under the new guidelines. She added that such individuals will be offered free PCR tests from any flu clinic.
According to the new HPA guideline, individuals who have completed their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be permitted to quarantine free to islands with a 60% vaccinated population.
Furthermore, it said a negative PCR test was mandatory if the island individual was traveling from has 5 percent or more positive cases and the same applies to individuals who are not eligible for vaccinations, such as minors.
However, there are currently no islands with a fully vaccinated population of more than 60%. But over 60% of the population in 120 islands have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
