The Ministry of Health has indicated that the case review of suspected negligence in the death of a 10-year-old COVID patient is still ongoing.
The Ministry of Health tweeted on Friday that the case review of the death of 10-year-old Mariyam Mishka Mohamed required more time but assured that they were working to expedite the review.
The announcement comes after Health Minister Ahmed Naseem stated on Wednesday that the case review was completed and that more information would be published on Thursday.
Mishka who was under home quarantine with her family in Male’ City after contracting COVID-19, suddenly started deteriorating. The family called for an ambulance at 09:00 pm to attend to her deteriorating health but had to wait for more than two hours for the ambulance, during which she became unresponsive with bleeding. The ambulance arrived at approximately 11:40 pm, and she was declared dead at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)’s ER at 12:10 am on Wednesday, after resuscitation attempts had failed.
