The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has stated that the judges involved in the leaked audio tapes allege it is a forgery, as the commission investigates claims of political involvement in former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s money laundering conviction.
According to a JSC press statement released on Monday, Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad, Judge Ali Adam, and Judge Mohamed Sameer were questioned as part of the commission’s inquiry into the leaked audio tapes and all denied having such a conversation, calling the recordings false.
Furthermore, the JSC noted that the remaining two judges on the five-judge bench that presided over Yameen’s trial had also refuted the claims conveyed in the audio recordings.
The commission further announced that it had asked the Maldives Police Service to conduct an audio analysis of the leaked audio recordings to further investigate them, and that the judges consented to supply an audio sample.
The JSC informed it will continue to investigate all relevant aspects of the matter.
