President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated Kudagiri Picnic Island, a dedicated recreation spot for Greater Malé Region residents. The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice President, First Lady, and government officials.
The island offers amenities such as cafes, huts, beaches, and public services, with easy accessibility and facilities for people with disabilities. On weekends, visitors can travel to the island for free and enjoy recreational activities such as futsal courts, water slides, and a children’s park. The island also has a mosque, changing rooms, retail shops, and safety measures.
HDC has implemented policies for visiting the island, including appropriate dress, designated smoking areas, and no loud noise during prayer times. Single-use plastics are prohibited. On weekends and public holidays, travel to the island is free, while local residents pay MVR 25 for the ferry and MVR 50 for the entrance fee. Personal vessel arrivals are charged extra, and visitors can book beds via the Kudagiri app as well. The island is available for special events like weddings and corporate gatherings.
