Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has created an online database containing all the laws, regulations, and policies in the Maldives criminal justice system. Justice of the Supreme Court Husnu Suood inaugurated the database at a special ceremony.
The online searchable database named Lethun contains all information regarding the laws, procedures, institutions, and policies in the criminal justice system. The database shows all relevant information on the searches made on its website, including amendments brought to specific laws. Users can also search for types of laws using tags and can bookmark the searches they have made.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem expressed hope the database will be useful for researchers who wish to obtain legal information on certain topics, as previously they had to go through different websites and institutions for the information. He said the idea to store all the information regarding the criminal justice system under one database came about due to the difficulties in obtaining the information.
Justice Husnu Suood also highlighted the importance of obtaining all relevant information to implement solutions and said that the database will become a crucial resource for researchers.
