Local Government Authority (LGA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and UNDP, has launched www.kiyeveni.mv portal to empower women through educational training and seminars.
The main aim of the portal is to assist the decentralisation policy of the government by increasing women participation and activity in the political field. The portal will provide valuable information and training needed to empower women.
The portal will help to develop necessary skills required to run local council and development committees. Women will be able to attain the knowledge and skill required to function on a local and political level to run development programs in their islands. Moreover, it will also act as a gateway for women to proactively participate in the political sphere.
The portal will be adding more courses and training programs in future aimed at developing the decentralisation policy of the government. Several programs are planned for councilors and members of the women’s development committee to train and partake in localised development projects. Furthermore, relevant information will be made available to make the general public aware of the benefits of decentralisation.
