,A local man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of breaking into the home of Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.
According to a police media official, the suspect is a 45-year-old Maldivian male who has been held in custody for 7 days while the investigation is underway.
Last Thursday, someone tampered with security cameras and attempted to force entry into the Chief Justice’s residence.
Home Minister Imran Abdulla told the People’s Majlis on Monday that the suspect had a history of drug-related offenses, based on information he had received.
Furthermore, when North-Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahumy questioned whether the police had received intelligence about the security at the Chief Justice’s residence and if they were aware of the weak security, Minister Imran refused to answer.
However, following the incident, People’s Majlis Committee on National Security Services Chairperson Mohamed Aslam stated on Sunday that he had received information that the security at the Chief Justice’s residence had been stepped up.
