Maafushi Prison has been declared a state of emergency as a precaution after a correctional officer tested positive for COVID-19.
A prison officer was tested after displaying symptoms, according to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed, and the results were positive for COVID-19.
Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed further stated that contact tracing at the prison had begun and that the facility would remain in an emergency condition until the results of all samples gathered were obtained.
A total of 173 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Maldives to 81,474.
72 more COVID-19 patients have been proven to have made full recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 79,340. The Maldives now has 1,895 active cases.
