The People’s Majlis went into recess on Monday after ending the third session, during which 20 bills were passed.
People’s Majlis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed concluded the year’s last sitting by summarizing the work done throughout the session, noting 44 sittings were conducted over the term, and members spent 112 hours working on bills.
During the third term, 950 members spoke in parliament, and 320 committee meetings were held, according to the People’s Majlis.
The People’s Majlis passed 20 legislations during the session. It worked on a total of 41 bills, 9 of which were outstanding from the previous session and 32 of which were introduced during the third session.
It also completed the work on evaluating four resolutions, however 10 resolutions remain outstanding. It also worked on seven motions brought forth by the administration. Nine motions were discussed throughout the term, according to Nasheed.
While 32 ministers were questioned throughout the session, Nasheed stated the Majlis was unable to question seven cabinet ministers. During the session, 95 concerns were settled in total, he added.
