President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced donation of 1 million cans of tuna to Turkey and Syria.
In response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced on Friday that the Maldives government will provide in-kind assistance of one million cans of tuna. Half a million cans will be donated to each country to aid in the efforts to provide humanitarian relief to those affected.
The earthquakes have resulted in over 22,000 fatalities and countless injuries, with rescue workers working tirelessly to save survivors from the rubble. While there have been some heartening rescue efforts in Turkey, the situation in northwest Syria remains dire, with the executive director of the World Food Programme calling it a “catastrophe on top of catastrophe.
