Four key agreements were signed on Thursday between the Maldives and Bangladesh as part of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ongoing visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The agreement was exchanged in a ceremony at the President’s Office on Thursday, presided over by President Solih and Prime Minister Hasina.
During the ceremony, an MoU on Recruitment of Qualified Health Professionals was signed by the Maldivian Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem, and the Bangladeshi Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Zahid Maleque. The two health ministers also renewed the Memorandum of Understanding in the fields of health care and medical sciences.
During the event, Maldivian Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen also signed an MoU on Cooperation in the Area of Youth and Sports Development.
Furthermore, the Agreement on Avoiding Double Taxation and Preventing Fiscal Evasion with Regard to Income Taxes was signed between the countries by Fathuhulla Jameel, Commissioner-General of Taxation of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), and Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue of Bangladesh.
Aside from the agreement signing, the Maldives’ Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal, and Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff, General S. M. Shafiuddin Ahmed, handed over the keys of military vehicles provided by Bangladesh to the Maldives.
