Statistics published by the Family Court reveals that the court registered 2,399 marriages and 1,192 divorces in 2021.

The divorce rate in the Maldives has always been alarmingly high with cultural and traditional influences along with unavailability of proper couple counseling often blamed. Moreover, 2,400 cases related to child support payments were filed to the Family Court in 2021, further highlighting the social issues present in the Maldives.
