Maldives is currently bracing a more lethal COVID-19 strain of the COVID-19 virus, says IGMH’s National Center for Respiratory Medicine’s Dr. Mohamed Ali.
“Looks more infective. Affecting the lungs more vigorously. Deteriorates faster,” tweeted Dr. Mohamed Ali.
The doctor’s statement comes after the daily number of virus cases reported in the Maldives has increased exponentially.
Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) has previously warned that the rise in cases could lead to new strains of the virus.
The Maldives is recording an excess of 700 cases on a daily basis for the past three days. Eight deaths have been reported in the last 48 hours alone and hospitalizations have increased beyond 200.
