The Minimum Wage Board has agreed to set MVR 5,700 as the Maldives’ minimum wage and has recommended this to the economic minister.
According to the Board’s decision on Monday, the minimum pay for a civil servant in a permanent employment is MVR 7,000 for six hours of work, while the minimum wage for small companies is MVR 5,700 for eight hours of work.
Furthermore, the minimum wage for workers in medium-sized businesses is MVR 8,000 for eight hours of labor, and MVR 10,200 for big enterprises.
However, the Board did not establish a minimum salary for micro-enterprises. It also did not establish a minimum wage for foreign workers.
The Board passed the amounts proposed by the government for the minimum wage; the decision will be finalised after the economic minister approves it
