Maldives Immigration has released a Japanese woman who was seen begging on the streets of Male’ City, following her questioning by the Maldives Police Services.
The woman gained attention after posts about her began circulating on social media, detailing some of the tactics she used in begging. The police have stated that they have gained all necessary information regarding the case and handed her over to Immigration for further investigation.
While the investigation is ongoing, an Immigration official confirmed that the woman had been released after clearing information relevant to the case, and that action would be taken against her if any issues surfaced during the investigation. The official added that the woman is married to a Maldivian and that taking action would be decided after investigations.
