Vice President Faisal Naseem has officially launched the development and re-establishment of the primary healthcare service and a registration portal.
Re-establishing primary healthcare services is a high priority of the administration. As part of the efforts, state authorities plan to increase public awareness of non-communicable diseases, promote early testing, and ensure access to medicine and proper treatment.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem said that primary healthcare services existed before and played a crucial role in eliminating major diseases in the Maldives. He said that primary healthcare services are now more important than ever due to the rise in non-communicable diseases. He expressed confidence that the re-establishment of primary healthcare services will lead to early testing and treatment of non-communicable diseases across the country.
The re-establishment of the primary healthcare service is expected to increase the long-term mental and physical health of citizens. Under the new primary healthcare service, a care pathway for service delivery will be created and put into place to allow authorities to test and collect data on the health of citizens and treat them under one system. Patients can undergo tests and be referred to various health centres under the pathway. Workers at different health centres will be working together with various organisations as part of the service.
