The Maldives is making significant strides towards achieving its annual tourism target of 1.8 million visitor arrivals, with a commendable accomplishment of 65% already realized.
Freshly released data from the tourism ministry, disclosed on Friday, indicates that up until Wednesday, a total of 1.1 million tourists have graced the Maldivian shores. In order to hit the ambitious 1.8 million mark, the nation is now aiming to attract an additional 634,663 travelers.
Drawing attention to the daily influx, statistics reveal an average of 5,631 tourists embarking on Maldivian sojourns. With this pace in mind, projections indicate that over the remaining four and a half months of the year, approximately 800,000 individuals will make their way to the Maldives. If these numbers materialize, the island paradise could potentially welcome between 1.9 to 2 million tourists by the close of the year—a remarkable 165,000 above the targeted goal.
The report underscores a notable surge in arrivals, depicting a 13.8% increase over the same period last year, amounting to an impressive addition of 141,608 visitors. The average duration of stay in the Maldives is 7.7 days, showcasing an improvement from the previous year.
Despite the geopolitical backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Maldives continues to be favored by tourists, particularly from Russia. The top five countries contributing to this vibrant tourism scene include:
- Russia – 138,091 tourists, constituting 11.8% of the overall arrivals
- India – 129,155 tourists, accounting for 11.1% of total arrivals
- China – 109,585 tourists, making up 9.4% of total arrivals
- UK – 96,527 tourists, contributing 8.3% of total arrivals
- Germany – 76,917 tourists
- Italy – 75,801 tourists
This impressive influx of visitors from diverse corners of the globe underscores the Maldives’ unwavering allure as a premier travel destination. With this sustained momentum, the nation appears poised for a promising finish to the year.
